LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – Heavy rain that swept through the region this morning is fading as it moves off to the northeast, with mostly quiet conditions expected through evening Friday.

However, don’t put the umbrella away just yet. Isolated to scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected to redevelop late this evening and overnight, though coverage will be more limited than what fell earlier in the day. A few spots could still see heavy downpours that lead to localized street flooding.

While severe storms are not expected, a few storms could produce wind gusts up to 60 mph. Heavy rainfall will be possible with any storm that develops.
The weekend outlook
Saturday will bring warmer and quieter conditions with only a slim shot of a storm. Afternoon highs will warm into the 80s and 90s as upper-level ridging builds over the Central and Southern South Plains. Sunday will be warm and dry.
