Emergency services responded around 11:08 a.m. to the southbound lanes, and multiple injuries were reported, said Dallas police. According to Dallas Fire-Rescue, 911 callers reported seeing a multi-vehicle collision involving six vehicles, including an 18-wheeler that rolled onto its side.

Dallas Fire-Rescue dispatched a HazMat team to the scene because of the ruptured saddle tanks on the 18-wheeler spilling approximately 170 gallons of diesel. There were also several totes in the back of the 18-wheeler that had miscellaneous fluids, such as used cooking oil, that HazMat technicians had to stop leaking, said Jason Evans, a spokesman for Dallas Fire-Rescue.

The 18-wheeler reportedly struck several cars before crashing into a wall. Three people were transported to a local hospital — a man and woman in their 30s, and a woman in her 20s, Evans said. All three were in stable condition with non-life-threatening injuries Friday.

Northbound lanes were later closed, shutting down travel on one of Dallas’ central roadways. They were later reopened, said Michael Rey, a spokesman for the North Texas Tollway Authority.

Photos from KXAS-TV (NBC5) showed the 18-wheeler toppled onto its side. Several emergency personnel were surrounding the vehicle.

The NTTA said drivers should expect heavy traffic and avoid the area.
