Switching gears, on Sept. 30, 1996, the Harris County Sheriff’s Department noted it had been five years since the abduction and killing of deputy Roxyann Allee.

On that day in 1991, Allee, a corporal at the county jail, was abducted from the Greenspoint Mall parking lot. She was off duty at the time and was wearing civilian clothes when she went to the mall that evening to shop. A deputy found her body, with numerous gunshot wounds, in a nearby field.
