Arlington-based Little Spark Films is trying to put North Texas on the horror-movies map, and its first fully financed feature is now complete. The Latino-owned company wrapped “Bridgette Wrona and the Whisper Creek Murders,” written by Preston Fossil and produced by Larissa Dali, who also acts in it. The film follows a true-crime podcast host who investigates when a serial killer known as the Flower King resurfaces in a remote East Texas town. The studio was founded by Joe Manco and Catalina Querida in 2013 after they were unhappy with videos another agency made for them. After years of self-funding projects, they got a $1 million investment from producer Chris C. Rushing this year, giving them better equipment, bigger crews and the ability to back other filmmakers. Their past horror projects include “Hellbound Laments,” “Beyond Dusk,” “The Torturer,” “Vicemares” and “Death World.” Little Spark is also working on “Night of the Witch,” a long-lost project first developed by Stan Lee and Lloyd Kaufman in 1969 and drafted in 1971. The film centers on Elsie Gomez, a young Mexican-American woman in a secluded Texas town, and is on the cusp of getting greenlit. The company says its movies can be streamed and are available on DVD and Blu-ray. Preston Fassel says there is “an incredible amount of stories out there to tell,” and Little Spark says it wants to fill what it sees as a hole in the Texas genre space.
