AUSTIN, Texas — Children under 18 across the Austin area will be able to get a free supper at IDEA Public Schools campuses starting this week, whether or not they attend IDEA.
The meals are offered through the Child and Adult Care Food Program, run by the Texas Department of Agriculture, beginning Oct. 1. Meal times vary by campus, with service starting as early as 3:15 p.m. Families can contact individual campuses for exact times. No sign-up is required.

“When students have access to nutritious meals, they’re better equipped to learn, grow, and succeed both in and out of the classroom,” said Fernando Aguilar, senior vice president of IDEA’s Child Nutrition Program.
The eight participating Austin-area campuses are IDEA Bluff Springs, IDEA Health Professions, IDEA Kyle, IDEA Montopolis, IDEA Parmer Park, IDEA Pflugerville, IDEA Round Rock Tech and IDEA Rundberg.
The supper program adds to the free breakfast and lunch IDEA already provides to all its students. Each meal includes protein, fruits and vegetables, whole grains and milk, according to the district.
