One of San Antonio’s biggest online influencers has announced she will be hosting a brand new, Fiesta-style party next year. Just don’t call it a Fiesta event. Or worse, NIOSA 2.0.
Cecilia Chávez, creator of the 210 La Chismosa social media platform, which has more than half a million followers, insists her yet-to-be-named event is not associated with Fiesta, although it will take place during the same period of time.
“We’re not here to compete with anyone,” she said. “We’re just trying to fill a void of what’s missing.”
Filling that void, she explained, includes creating an affordable, family-friendly event.
“We want to keep prices reasonable,” she said. “If we can charge vendors a quarter of what they were paying during Fiesta, they can charge people a quarter of the price they used to charge.”
“People were like, ‘Why isn’t it happening?'” she said. “And I thought, how hard could it be? Let’s put it together and make it happen.”
Chávez said she expects the event to take place over two nights and hopes to have more details, including a name for the event and a working website, by Friday.
“We already have some names we’re discussing, but we don’t want to announce it until we’re 100% sure,” she said.
Chávez is also recruiting volunteers as well as sponsors to help fund the $200,000 she estimated the event will cost.
“I lost a son and, even though it wasn’t to cancer, I know what those parents are going through,” she said. “If I can help these families by hosting this event, it would help fill a void in my heart.”
