A man was shot and killed Wednesday morning after an apparent attempted carjacking in Houston, police said.
According to Lt. Wilkens, officers received a call about 2:18 a.m. reporting shots fired.
When officers arrived, they found a man, believed to be between 30 and 40 years old, dead at the scene.
Police said a witness told investigators the victim was feeding homeless people in the area when a man approached him and asked for money.
The situation escalated when the suspect allegedly tried to take the victim’s vehicle at gunpoint.
The victim attempted to drive away, but police said the suspect fired a shot, striking the victim. The victim then crashed into a fence, where the vehicle came to a stop.
Officers later located the suspect after he ran from the scene on foot. Police said the 30-year-old suspect was taken into custody and transported to a local hospital for minor scrapes and injuries to his arms.
The investigation remains ongoing. Police have not released the identity of the victim or announced any charges against the suspect.
