LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – The owner of Lubbock’s “One Guy From Italy” spoke at a Hispanic Heritage Month celebration at the White House.
While thanking his supporters at the end of the event, President Trump invited Gabriel Vitela to the podium to address the crowd.
Vitela thanked the president for the “no tax on tips and overtime” legislation he supported, which is now a federal income tax deduction.
“A Hispanic man that owns an Italian restaurant, married to a white woman from Lubbock, Texas, getting to speak at the White House,” Vitela said. “I’ve waited tables, I’ve bartended, and I have the privilege of employing great people. Great people who work just as hard as I once did. So when we talk about no tax on tips and overtime, I don’t see numbers. I see hard working moms and dads that are trying to buy groceries, that are paying light bills, and they’re trying to give their children a better life than they had.”
Vitela is also the owner of Giorgio’s Pizza on Broadway.
