LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – While the Frenship Memorial Panthers (1-3, 0-1) will look for their second win in their first year as a varsity program, the Monterey Plainsmen (2-2, 1-0) will seek their second-straight victory tonight on “Thursday Night Throwdown”, airing on KMYL 14.1/22.2, Optimum 6, DIRECTV 14, UVERSE 1014, and SIMULCAST KJ-CD 32.1.
Coming off an open date, the Plainsmen shut out the Caprock Longhorns on the road 24-0. This was also the first start for quarterback Jonah Reed, who was injured in the offseason.
Frenship Memorial already has had success at PlainsCapital Park this season, in week three, they upset the Coronado Mustangs 30-13. They are looking to shock the South Plains once more this evening.
Memorial head coach Jason Richards and Monterey head coach Jason Sims both agree on the importance of early wins in district play.
“In my opinion, it’s the best football district in West Texas. It’s going to be fun. It’s going to be a great district and this thing is wide open,” Richards said.
“If you want to win district, you have to win a lot of ball games in district and that’s what we’re focused on. We just want to be the best version of ourselves this week and go 1-0,” echoed Sims.
Panthers-Plainsmen kick off at 7 p.m. tonight at PlainsCapital Park.
