The UTA Police Department issued a safety bulletin email Thursday, relating to two reported sexual assault incidents that happened on campus.

The alleged incidents were reported to have occurred on or around Sept. 15 in West Hall, according to the email. The reporting party alleged that a second assault occurred shortly after the first in a dorm restroom.

According to the email, the reporting student knows the alleged offender, but they have not provided the offender’s identity to campus police at the time of the email being sent.

UTA Police Capt. Dean Peterson said in an email that the incidents were reported to a campus security authority outside of the police department. The reporting individual has not filed a report with UTA PD as of Thursday evening.

UTA Police said they believe the alleged offender is a student who resides in the dorm, according to the email.

The safety bulletin also reminded the campus community that consent must be voluntary, ongoing and can be withdrawn at any time.

Consent cannot be inferred from being in a prior relationship, agreeing to spend time with someone, entering or remaining in another person’s residence, or previously engaging in sexual activity, the email said.
