18-wheeler strikes bridge, shuts down southbound I-35 in downtown Austin

AUSTIN, Texas — Southbound I-35 is shut down in downtown Austin after an 18-wheeler struck a bridge, according to the Austin Police Department.

All southbound lanes are closed at 11th and 12th streets, with traffic getting by only on the far right shoulder, police said.

The roadway will not reopen until the Texas Department of Transportation determines it is safe.

Drivers should expect delays and plan alternate routes.
