A pool and hot tub retailer is shutting down several stores in North Texas.

Leslie’s, which is based in Arizona, is closing more than half a dozen sites, with Dallas and Plano getting hit hardest. The chain continues to operate many stores throughout the region, stretching from Fort Worth to Prosper to Waxahachie.

The moves come amid a Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing and the closure of more than 75 stores across the company’s physical footprint, according to the company and the bankruptcy filings. The company has seen challenges with sinking sales and net losses amid a slowdown in demand after pandemic-era spending, along with inflationary headwinds.

Leslie’s provides supplies for keeping pools operating, including specialty chemicals and equipment.

The company announced a restructuring support agreement to cut about 90% of debt and secure about $150 million of new capital. In a statement, CEO Jason McDonell said “Leslie’s can reinvest across the business to strengthen operating execution,” adding “Leslie’s is here to stay.”

The stores in North Texas that were listed for “initial rejected leases” in one of the bankruptcy documents include:
•    9540 Garland Road #186, Dallas
•    11661 Preston Road, Dallas
•    230 W. Parker Road, Plano
•    3136 Independence Parkway, Plano
•    11750 U.S. Hwy 380, Crossroads
•    2301 W. Southlake Blvd., Southlake
•    8930 State Highway 121, McKinney

The list also includes retail spots in other parts of Texas, such as San Antonio and Houston.

The challenges at Leslie’s come as other retailers have faced headwinds as consumers shift their shopping preferences and the rise of online options. Exemplar Luxury Group, parent of Neiman Marcus, emerged from bankruptcy earlier this year and shut down some of its stores, including the downtown Dallas locale.
