Southwest Fort Worth is getting an H-E-B.
The San Antonio-based supermarket company announced Friday it has purchased more than 20 acres in a master-planned development that is part of the Edwards Ranch.
Located at the northeast corner of Chisholm Trail Parkway and Oakmont Boulevard, the store will be in the 250-acre Overland community, a part of the Edwards Ranch being developed by Cassco, the real estate and development arm of the Edwards family.
Construction will start early next year, and the H‑E‑B store is expected to open in late 2028.
“We are honored to partner with H-E-B, a beloved Texas institution whose deep connection to its customers and neighborhoods closely reflects our own values of thoughtful development and investment in the Fort Worth community,” Cassco President Crawford Edwards said in a news release. “H-E-B has earned the trust and loyalty of generations of Texans, and we look forward to the meaningful role they will play in the Overland community for years to come.”
H-E-B owns more than a dozen parcels across Tarrant County, including sites off Bonds Ranch Road in far north Fort Worth, an area where the city’s first H-E-B store opened at 451 Heritage Trace Parkway. H-E-B also has land in southwest Fort Worth in the Shops at Chisholm Trail Ranch retail center further south, but the company says it often buys large parcels for grocery stores and sells off smaller tracts for other developments.

Last summer, the grocer announced a store on the 18.2 acres it owns at the FM 3325 and Interstate 20 service road in the Walsh development. The area is west of the residential development at Walsh where about 1,500 homes were constructed.
But this announcement signals that the grocer is coming closer to central Fort Worth.
“For years, customers have asked us when a new H‑E‑B would come closer to downtown Fort Worth, and with our new store on Chisholm Parkway, we can now say that day is soon,” said Stephen Butt, president of H‑E‑B shareholder relations.
The location is across the Chisholm Trail Parkway from another new development, the nearly-75-acre Autobahn Fort Worth dealership currently under construction.
H-E-B, which has sales of more than $50 billion and operates over 450 stores in Texas and Mexico, has made a big push into North Texas in recent years. Southwest Fort Worth is the latest in a string of new sites for the grocery chain that has become a Texas cultural phenomenon.
On the west side of Dallas-Fort Worth, H-E-B also has opened locations in Mansfield and in the Midcities. H-E-B’s more specialized brand, Central Market has been in Fort Worth since 2001.
