Thousands of CPS Energy customers in San Antonio are without power after storms rolled through the area overnight on Friday, October 2.

A CPS Energy outage map shows that 2,895 customers are currently without power due to nine active outages as of 2:06 p.m. According to the map, the largest weather-related outages are near Castle Hills around Interstate 10, near Interstate 35 and Wurzbach Parkway and in Southtown.

On Tuesday, CPS Energy emailed customers that it is prepared for isolated thunderstorms and locally heavy rain starting Wednesday and continuing into the weekend. The utility company stated, “The storms can escalate quickly and could be strong to severe, resulting in flash flooding and wind gusts that could impact our reliability by taking down tree limbs and power lines. Our crews are on standby to respond safely should outages occur, and we ask for your patience as we work in dangerous driving and working conditions.”

The outages followed another round of storms overnight Thursday into Friday, as a slow-moving cold front and tropical moisture brought repeated rounds of heavy rain to South and Central Texas. Thousands of customers were also without power on Thursday, October 1, though crews worked throughout the day to restore service.

The National Weather Service’s flood watch remains in effect through 7 p.m. Friday, with 2 to 4 inches of rain forecast across much of the region and isolated totals up to 8 inches. Forecasters warned that heavy rain could cause flash flooding, with additional showers and storms possible Friday.
