TEXRail surpassed 1 million riders in a year for the first time, marking a record-setting milestone as Trinity Metro prepares to expand service in Fort Worth.

FORT WORTH, Texas — TEXRail just reached a major milestone, and plenty of North Texans have helped make it happen.

For the first time since launching in 2019, Trinity Metro’s commuter rail line has topped 1 million riders in a single year, setting a new annual ridership record and highlighting the growing demand for public transit across North Texas.

This story continues below.

The milestone was reached this week when TEXRail welcomed its one-millionth ride of 2026, a moment Trinity Metro celebrated with customers and staff.

Since service began nearly eight years ago, TEXRail has carried more than 4.8 million passengers between downtown Fort Worth and Dallas Fort Worth International Airport, offering an alternative to sitting in highway traffic.

Helping North Texans Skip the Traffic

TEXRail operates daily along a 27-mile route connecting downtown Fort Worth with DFW Airport Terminal B. Along the way, riders can access jobs, restaurants, shopping, festivals, entertainment venues and some of the region’s busiest destinations.

For travelers, the service offers a stress-free way to reach the airport without worrying about parking, tolls or traffic backups.

The rail line also connects with DART’s Silver Line at DFW Airport, making it easier for riders to travel across the North Texas rail network.

More Than Just a Train Ride

TEXRail’s success isn’t only showing up in ridership numbers.

Transit leaders point to significant growth around stations, especially in Grapevine, where more than $114 million in public and private development has taken shape near Grapevine/Main Street Station.

The Next Stop: Expansion

The record-setting year comes as Trinity Metro prepares for TEXRail’s next chapter.

On Oct. 29, the agency plans to break ground on the TEXRail Extension, which will expand service from Fort Worth T&P Station into Fort Worth’s Near Southside and Medical District.

The new extension is expected to improve access to one of Fort Worth’s largest employment hubs, creating new connections to healthcare facilities, schools, businesses and neighborhoods.
