Leslie’s, a pool supply chain, will close eight Houston-area stores after the Phoenix-based pool supply retailer filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection Wednesday in Houston.

The bankruptcy filing took place Wednesday in the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of Texas, which is based in Houston.

Chapter 11 is a court-supervised process where companies can continue to operate in the ordinary course of business while strengthening their financial position. The company expects to continue operating normally during the bankruptcy process and hopes to emerge from Chapter 11 in early 2027.

Additionally, 76 Leslie’s locations will close, including the ones in Houston.

“For more than 60 years, Leslie’s has been the name that swimming pool and spa owners turn to for the knowledge, products, and solutions necessary to confidently maintain and safely enjoy their pools and spas,” he said in the letter. “That is not changing. Leslie’s is here to stay, and we will be stronger for you on the other side of our restructuring.”

The business, which was founded in 1963, said it will continue normal operations and deliver its pool products through the restructuring.

Phil Leslie Jr. opened the pool supply company in a single location in Los Angeles. The retailer grew to a more than 1,000-store chain across 37 states.

The company could not offer additional details in response to questions from the Houston Chronicle.
