A 56-year-old man has been arrested in the 1993 murder of a woman in Dallas after DNA evidence linked him to the killing, police said.

Gary Len Ross was arrested Friday on a capital murder charge, Dallas police said in a news release

Tommie Davis, 55, was killed inside her home in the 1500 block of Haskell Avenue on May 18, 1993. She had been beaten with a two-by-four and slashed with a knife, police said.

Initial leads were limited to minor damage at the front door and missing items from the house, according to police.

Dallas homicide detective Andrea Isom reopened the case 32-years later and submitted several pieces of evidence for forensic analysis, according to the release.

Investigators discovered that blood found on a wall inside the home did not belong to Davis. The DNA profile obtained from the blood was entered into the Combined DNA Index System and returned a match to Tommy Lynn Jones.

Investigators later confirmed that Jones was an alias used by Ross, police said.

Isom obtained an arrest warrant based on the DNA match and additional evidence linking Ross to Davis and the scene. Ross is held in the Dallas County Jail, according to police.

“The Dallas Police Department is committed to pursuing justice in every case, no matter how much time has passed,” Major Bobbie Epperson of the Dallas Police Department’s CAPERS Unit said in the release “Detective Isom’s meticulous and persistent work exemplifies the dedication of our CAPERS Unit. We hope this arrest brings a measure of closure to Ms. Davis’s family and serves as a reminder that justice will always be pursued.”

The investigation is ongoing, police said. Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Isom at 214-671-3701 or andrea.isom@dallaspolice.gov.
