But then opening it back up down the block.
“We are super excited to announce Tacos Doña Lena will be moving to a more spacious building down the street,” started the post on social media Sept. 23.
“This is a bittersweet moment for us, but now we will be able to do so many things we couldn’t do at our current location,” the announcement continued. Among them: The new Tacos Doña Lena will have a full bar with margaritas and other specialty cocktails, plus new menu items “like queso, guac, flautas, desserts and other favorite Mexican antojitos.”
Angel Cabrera and his mother Magdalena Cabrera opened Tacos Doña Lena in a strip center on Hammerly Boulevard in April 2020, earning high praise for the latter’s tacos, plus quesabirria and other items. It earned several plaudits, including a spot in Yelp’s Top 100 Restaurants to Eat in the U.S. list in 2021.
The original location’s new home is the former La Siberia Original, itself a Mexican restaurant. Back in March, the owners of La Siberia announced the restaurant was “closed for renovations.”
Tacos Doña Lena will remain open at the Hammerly Boulevard location until the move is made, which should happen within a few weeks, according to the Cabreras.
