Toast has come a long way in the last decade, and after Toasted Coffee + Kitchen closed in November last year, it left a 3,500-square-foot hole in our avocado-loving hearts.
The next tenant at 5420 Ross Ave. will be Greenville Breakfast Company, set to open around mid-December.

San Diego-based hospitality group Rise & Shine is behind the breakfast concept. Greenville Breakfast Company will join three other Breakfast Company locations, two in San Diego and another in West Hollywood.
“We’re incredibly excited to bring our first restaurant to Texas,” Rise & Shine Founder Johan Engman said. “Texas is a very business-friendly state, and we see tremendous opportunity here. Dallas is just the beginning for us, and we’re looking forward to becoming part of the community and continuing to grow throughout the state.”
The Rise & Shine Group also operates six other breakfast-focused concepts around Southern California. One of which is Breakfast Republic, with 11 locations across the base of the state, with three more slated to open in the coming months.
We haven’t seen the Dallas menu yet, but based on the other menus we’ve seen, they don’t vary much by location. Chilaquiles suizos, sweet chili shrimp and grits, steak and eggs and a California breakfast burrito were all highlighted for the Dallas location, but they’re also being served at others.

We’re seeing a long list of specialty plates on the menu with things like a brioche breakfast sandwich and a Japanese spicy chicken sandwich. Then there are smaller sections with waffles, pancakes, omelets and scrambles, French toast, sides and an entire page of drinks. Yes, it’s boozy.
Unique pulls from the drink menu include the rise and shine shot, made with vodka, lime juice, orange juice, bitters and ginger beer; a michelada; house-squeezed orange juice; and a bottle of Breakfast Company’s own prosecco sourced from Italy.
Coffee, organic teas, juice, matcha and other non-alcoholic drinks are also available. From the sound of it, they’re well acquainted with their target demographic.

Despite hailing from California, all Breakfast Company locations source Vital Farms eggs, headquartered in Austin, Texas, and, uniquely, they have multiple vegan items on the menu. There’s a vegan Benedict, vegan breakfast sandwich, and vegan eggs for omelets and scrambles. They also offer a few gluten-free items, including pancakes.
Greenville Breakfast Company will serve breakfast and brunch seven days a week from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 5420 Ross Ave.
