A beloved neighborhood grill in Central Texas will soon be shutting its doors after 26 years in business. Pecan Street Station Deli and Grill announced on social media that it will be closing its one and only Pflugerville restaurant this week.

Owner Paul Prestridge said on Facebook that Pecan Street’s last day of operation will be Sunday, October 11. The restaurant has been serving the Pflugerville community since 2000, and its closure marks the third business loss in the north Austin suburb this year.

“To our employees, thank you for your hard work and dedication,” Pecan Street’s post said. “To our customers, thank you for every visit, every meal, and every memory. This place has been a huge part of my life, and I’m grateful to have shared it with you.”

In 2016, Pecan Street’s previous owners decided to retire and Prestridge took over the business after 18 years of working at the restaurant, according to its website. Prestridge said he “knew purchasing the business without owning the building was a risk, but this place meant too much to me to let that opportunity pass.”

More recently he explained that the building had been up for sale, and he “did everything” he could to purchase it, but was unable to do so.

“My goal was to keep the restaurant running, keep our employees working, and continue serving the customers and community who have supported us for so long,” he wrote in part. “Our business was still profitable, which makes having to leave this location especially difficult.”

Pecan Street is known for its all-day breakfast and home-style comfort food like deli sandwiches, hot dogs, burgers and more. Many Pflugerville residents were saddened to see the restaurant’s closure online and left dozens of comments in support of the business.

“So sad to hear this,” said Facebook user Jim Wilkinson. “Pecan Street Station is not just a fine restaurant but a regular place for meetings family, friends and business associates. Pflugerville will not be the same.”

Another Facebook user Amy McNiece Raigosa added, “This broke my heart. I’m sending out all the positive vibes your way. Hoping you can find that new location soon because we’re heading into soup season and I’m gonna need some broccoli cheese and tortilla soup.”

Others like Susan Stock also noted the loss of two other longtime staples, Brotherton’s Black Iron Barbecue and Springhill Restaurant, that recently announced closures in August and September. However, Pecan Street may not be gone forever as the restaurant teased the possibility of a relocation.

“My hope is to carry that same spirit into a new location,” Prestridge wrote. “We’ll share updates about our relocation plans as we have more information. Thank you for being part of our story.”

MySA reached out for more information on the new location. Pecan Street is open from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday and Sunday from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.
