Governor Greg Abbott made a stop in Houston to take part in a law enforcement roundtable, and ‘Back The Blue’.
“Texas is a law and order state, our law enforcement officers risk their lives every single day serving and protecting our communities” Abbott said.
Abbott also pointed out how his challenger, Gina Hinojosa voted to defund the police, supported sanctuary cities, and actually voted against a law to deny bail to illegal immigrants who murder Texans.
Last week, Governor Abbott issued a declaration that October is Law Enforcement Appreciation month.
During the Q&A session with the media, Abbott said he was confident about his chances of winning re-election, and has his own “internal” polling numbers.
And of course the left-wing reporters asked about ICE, and Ray Hunt, Executive Director for the Houston Police Officers Union hit them with a truth bomb.
“There are 982 illegals in the Harris County jail right now with immigration detainers waiting to be shipped back to their country, but they’re waiting on a new felony charge. And that new felony charge is not happening because of leftist judges who are not holding trials” said Hunt, “We’re paying for 1,000 people to be over in Louisiana to be housed, when they could be housed right here if those illegals were having trials, being convicted, and then being shipped back to their countries. So, the number of people we turn over to ICE is nothing compared to the number of illegals that we arrest on new felony charges in Harris County. That’s the problem.”
Governor Abbott has spoken in the past about his support for law enforcement, and Backing The Blue:
“I oppose any efforts to defund the police and to show my support for the brave law enforcement officers who risk their lives to protect and serve. Defunding our police departments would invite crime into our communities and put people in danger. That is why I pledge to support any measure that discourages or stops efforts to defund police departments in Texas.
Our law enforcement officers have our backs every single day, and we need to show them that Texans have their backs.
