HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — A east Houston family’s home was turned upside down during an unusual home invasion.
Rogaciano and Eugenia Sosa said they were having a brick oven built at their home on Avenue I on Saturday morning when surveillance cameras showed a woman with bright red hair walking past the workmen and into the Sosas’ home.
The couple told Eyewitness News in Spanish that they feared for the safety of their four grandchildren, one of whom is just four years old.
It turns out the intruder wasn’t armed, but the Sosas say that didn’t stop her from wreaking havoc.
They say she made her way to the kitchen at the back of their home and, after knocking over a water dispenser, poured fruit juice on herself and began tearing open a bag of beans.
They say she then took refuge under their dining table.
Rogaciano Sosa said he told his granddaughter to call police but that the intruder begged her not to, saying that the police were trying to kill her.
They called the police anyway and then began dragging her out from under the table.
The couple says they pulled her all the way to their front door before calling over one of the workmen to assist.
Video shows them dragging her across the threshold. She then slithers down their front steps before crawling away from the property on her hands and knees.
The Sosas say she made it across the street where she tried climbing atop a fire engine.
Police say they detained her under an emergency order, but that the district attorney’s office declined to accept criminal charges since it appeared she was having a mental health crisis.
