In 2020, Dean founded the first Cranky Granny’s at the Domain shopping center in north Austin until eventually moving her business to Pflugerville three years later. Social media helped fuel Cranky Granny’s growth with videos of mouthwatering cinnamon rolls often going viral online, which led to Dean expanding to open a second location in Cedar Park.

Although Dean has not announced a closing date for the location yet, she clarified that the Cedar Park closure will not impact her future plans for growth. The bakery started dabbling in other Texas cities this year with sold out pop-ups in San Antonio and Houston.

“This doesn’t mean Cranky Granny’s is done growing, we’re just becoming more intentional about where and how we grow next,” Dean wrote in a caption.

Cranky Granny’s fans were sad to hear about the closure, but offered suggestions on where Dean should relocate to next. Instagram user @ronaldtheshort wrote, “Y’all should consider a small spot in South Austin! I love your rolls!!” and @jessepinkmans.wife_ agreed adding, “fr like I have to drive 2 hours for cranky granny’s.” Others like @smidgen added, “Man im sick the spot 2 min from me,” and @elena.moulder commenting, “Omggggg I gotta go before yall close.”

Dean is now actively looking for a new food tenant to fill the 1,800-square-foot commercial retail space located at 10900 Lakeline Mall Drive, Suite 300. The space within Walden Park shopping center offers an existing food service build out, large kitchen/production area, retail storefront, storage and office area.

She said it would be ideal for a business like a restaurant, bakery, café or dessert shop. For those interested in learning more about the space, reach out to crankygrannys@gmail.com or DM Cranky Granny’s on Instagram.
