A fire significantly damaged a midway game at the State Fair of Texas on Tuesday morning, but no injuries were reported, Dallas Fire-Rescue said.
At the scene, charred metal framing and collapsed game racks were surrounded by firefighting foam and water. Burned and water-soaked stuffed animals lay amid the debris, while brightly colored prizes still hung from nearby game stands.
Firefighters were dispatched to Fair Park about 7:08 a.m. and saw a large column of smoke as they arrived. Crews found a gaming stand on fire and quickly extinguished the flames, according to DFR.
Crews declared the fire out at 7:26 a.m., less than 20 minutes after being dispatched.
DFR identified the damaged stand as a balloon pop game. Firefighters remained at the scene putting out hot spots in stuffed animals and other prizes.
Metal barricades blocked off the damaged area Tuesday morning.
Gaming stands were not open for business when the fire broke out.
Dallas Fire-Rescue said investigators believe an electrical short caused the fire.
The State Fair of Texas remained scheduled to open at 10 a.m. Tuesday, with the midway opening at 11 a.m.
This is a developing story.
