Texas homeowners are calling out a nationwide home builder after reporting major structural issues in their homes. Two Texans took to social media to document growing cracks in their Lennar Homes, and now it seems the company is responding.
TikTok user @honeybeeabs first posted about cracks on the inside and outside of her East Austin home in early September. In her video, she said she purchased the home in 2019, but she just started seeing cracks along her tile floor, walls and ceiling “a few months ago.”
“Today my builder came to check on my house and told me that the crack from one side of my house to the other side of my house is completely normal,” @honeybeeabs began her video. “I want to know if this is normal and other people are experiencing this because I don’t think this is normal.”
Another Tiktoker @texpatbbq has been posting videos of cracks inside and outside of his Lennar home in Celina, near Dallas. He said for the past 12 months, he’s been dealing with Lennar trying to convince the company that the cracks are “a problem” since his home is still under a 10-year warranty, but the cracks haven’t been fixed.
“We had them come out, they looked at the foundation, they inspected a whole bunch of things and then afterwards, they sent me this email that said, ‘it is not a structural concern. It is purely cosmetic,'” he said.
In a new update on her Lennar home, @honeybeeabs says is “splitting in half,” explaining that she was gone a few days last week and found “significantly wider” cracks in her tile floor and bigger cracks in her walls and ceiling. She compared photos she took of the cracks from early September to the new ones she found in early October upstairs and downstairs near the cracked floor.
“I’m just so freaked out right now that everything just seems worse because that one tile shifted so much, so much shifted apart,” she said. “Now it’s a hazard. It’s so sharp and someone could cut their foot on that.”
After @texpatbbq went on to post a series of updates on the cracks in his home, Lennar Homes posted a statement online in response saying they are aware of the videos and have been in direct contact with the homeowner. MySA reached out to Lennar Homes for an update on Austinite @honeybeeabs to which a spokesperson said, “We are working directly with the homeowner to address her concerns.”
“We have a comprehensive plan to address the issue as well as affected finishes and facades,” Lennar’s statement said in part. “We are also offering alternative lodging for the homeowner’s family while the work is completed.”
Lennar’s structural engineers have visited their homes to inspect their properties as both Texans are currently in the process of trying to get their homes fixed.
