DALLAS — The deadline to register to vote ahead of the November midterm elections was Monday, which led to a final push to get people registered.

The Dallas County Elections Department held a drive-thru registration event Monday to help residents complete the process.

The number of registered voters in Texas has continued to grow in recent election cycles. According to the Texas Secretary of State’s Office, about 15.8 million voters were registered ahead of the 2018 election. By the 2024 presidential election, that number had reached a record 18.6 million — an increase of nearly 3 million voters in six years.

To register to vote in Texas, a person must be a U.S. citizen, be at least 18 years old and be a resident of the county where they are registering.

Nicholas Solorzano with the Dallas County Elections Department said he encourages Texans to participate in the election.

“Your voice can make the difference, so we encourage everyone. We will never tell you how to vote, just tell you that you need to vote,” said Solorzano.

The Secretary of State’s Office said official statewide registration numbers for this year’s election will take about a week to determine after the registration deadline.

They mentioned Texas already has nearly 19 million registered voters, and the state expects that number to surpass 19 million heading into November.
