The St. Mary’s University Alumni Association announced that it is reimagining the city’s beloved Fiesta Oyster Bake into an event that places a greater emphasis on live music, national acts and a bigger entertainment venue and stages for its audiences.
“What began more than 110 years ago as a small gathering of St. Mary’s University alumni sharing camaraderie over baked oysters has evolved into an iconic San Antonio tradition worthy of its nickname, ‘The Heartbeat of Fiesta,'” the alumni association said in a news release sent to MySA.
The new event will be called the Fiesta Oyster Bake Music Fest.
It’s at least the second local Fiesta event to announce a major shift in operations this year after the San Antonio Conservation Society canceled its scheduled 2027 NIOSA run due to what organizers said was a lack of attendance. (Though, San Antonians may not have to worry about saying goodbye to NIOSA just yet, as it turns out.)
The alumni association said feedback from attendees prompted a shift from Oyster Bake’s familiar format to what it calls a “music-fest-style” event, with two stages going forward.
The event will run from Friday, April 16, to Saturday, April 17, 2027, on the St. Mary’s University campus.
Fiesta Oyster Bake Music Fest will feature two stages with expanded viewing capacity and premium VIP viewing decks, among other exciting additions, according to the alumni association.
Organizers said that while the festival is adding another stage and viewing decks, they expect to accommodate a similar crowd as in recent years past.
The expanded event will feature nationally recognized acts from a diverse variety of musical genres, the alumni association said. The university’s Battle of the Bands winner will also continue to perform at the upcoming event.
Early pre-sale ticket prices will cost $30 per day, the same as 2026 gate prices. Tickets purchased in April will cost $35. At the gate and day-of, online tickets will cost $40.
