Harris County Constable Precinct 1 said deputies responded to the 9900 block of Edgeworth Street where they found the dogs in a “rancid” living environment. Many were pink and hairless from infections and other diseases.
“The conditions were terrible. The odor was overwhelming,” said Precinct 1 Constable Alan Rosen in a news release. “No dog should have to live like that. This is one of the largest dog seizures that we have seen in a home.”
The Houston SPCA partnered with the law enforcement agency to rescue the dogs and is providing them with veterinary care. One dog was in critical condition when deputies arrived and received immediate care.
Authorities also seized four chickens and a pig.
No suspect has been detained or charged in relation to the animals, but an investigation is ongoing. Detectives will later review the case with prosecutors to determine whether criminal charges are warranted.
