A house on the market in San Antonio is going viral for its unabashedly retro mermaid style. Here’s a look at one of the quirkiest homes in the Alamo City.

Nestled in the Northside’s Highlands at Sonterra neighborhood, 23135 Summers Dream looks like it never left the ’80s. Full of pastel walls, cabinets and carpets, colorful wallpaper and lots of character, it went viral after being dubbed the “mermaid house” on TikTok. Listing photos landed on r/zillowgonewild, a Reddit page dedicated to houses that break the mold.

“I just want to run around in my LA Gear high tops with the multiple laces and spray tons of Aqua Net,” one commenter said. Another called it “Saved by the Bell as a house.”

It’s on the market for $750,000, listed by Dayton Schrader of The Schrader Group. It recently saw a $25,000 price drop, according to Zillow. The 5,295-square-foot, two-story residence features three bedrooms and five bathrooms — every bit as whimsical as you’d expect. Listing photos show the master bathroom decked out with lilac cabinets, blue and purple tiles covering the walls like fish scales, seashell light fixtures above the mirrors and a shower encircled by glass blocks. Several rooms feature purple carpet, towering windows overlooking the Texas Hill Country and walls drenched in lavender or teal tones. Built in 1992, Millennial beige has never touched this place.

In the kitchen, more kitsch. Reddit users compared the cream-and-teal tile swoosh adorning the counter to the famous “jazz” paper-cup pattern of the 1990s. Purple cabinets surround a kitchen island under a skylight with geometric patterns. Dark blue and purple tiles make up the backsplash, matching a separate bar area just off the kitchen. Between them, a golden chandelier. The house also features a swimming pool in the backyard, a wine cellar, a breakfast bar, a fireplace in the primary suite, a walk-in closet with an added “secret closet” and other little details.

In the comments on TikTok and in the Reddit thread, the owner of the house was identified as Monika Menczer, who passed away in 2024. “She was truly the most amazing and unique person,” said a TikTok commenter who described Menczer as her aunt. An obituary highlights her legendary ski trips and Halloween parties, as well as her faith, globetrotting spirit and love of gardening. Those celebrating her life were asked to “wear purple or your favorite sparkle to ‘rock your magic’ as Monika always did.”
