HARRIS COUNTY, Texas (KTRK) — Harris County officials confirmed that they have completed processing all 75,000 late voter records after reports that the county was experiencing a voter registration backlog.
According to county officials, nearly 75,000 applications were submitted in the backlog caused by a “state-level error.” ABC13 previously reported that the Department of Public Safety said certain records submitted online “were incomplete and not fully transmitted” to the secretary of state’s office. It said the “system issue” had been resolved.

The Office of the Harris County Tax Assessor-Collector & Voter Registrar, Annette Ramirez, confirmed on Monday that a team of 50+ members manually reviewed and processed unexpected records to ensure voters are eligible to participate in the November midterm elections.
In an updated statement, Ramirez shared that all of the 75,000 records were processed. Officials stated:
“As of Saturday, October 3, 2026, our office has processed all of the 75,000 late Department of Public Safety records we received from the Texas Secretary of State, and the backlog is cleared. Our staff worked diligently to conduct an additional review of 11,000 of those applications to further verify information, such as precinct placement.
Any applications for new registrations were sent to the Secretary of State’s office for verification, which is standard process. As a result, voters may not immediately see a change in their status.
We encourage voters to check their voter registration status at HCTAX.NET or call our office at 713-274-VOTE (8683) if they have questions. We are here to support all eligible voters, so they feel confident when heading to the polls.”
Officials said that the records could not be matched to an existing voter or an existing voter’s information. Although these were processed, there are still hundreds of others that are requiring further review to confirm correct placement within the voter’s respective precinct.
The Texas Secretary of State’s office and county election leaders say voters didn’t need to worry about their registration as long as they submitted it by Oct. 5, which was the last day to register to vote in Texas.
Anyone with concerns can check their voter registration status at VoteTexas.gov or by contacting their county election office. Early voting begins on Oct. 19.
