A pilot was killed Wednesday morning after a single-engine plane crashed and caught fire in north Fort Worth, officials said.

During a press conference on Wednesday, Fort Worth Fire Department officials said the crash was reported at about 9:55 a.m. along Bonds Ranch Road between Willow Springs Road and Business 287, near Hicks Airfield.

Fort Worth fire crews arrived to find the plane engulfed in flames. Firefighters extinguished the fire and found one man inside the aircraft. He was pronounced dead at the scene, fire officials said.

Video posted on social media showed the wreckage on fire along a nearby road.

Officials said the crash also damaged power lines, causing outages at some surrounding homes. Utility crews are working to make repairs and restore electricity to the affected residential areas.

The crash also sparked a grass fire, which firefighters were able to extinguish.

Officials said the plane came down close to a residential community but did not hit any homes. No other injuries were reported.

“It did not hit any homes,” fire department officials said during the news conference. “There were no other injuries. It was an isolated incident here, and nobody else was involved.”

Authorities said they did not yet know whether the plane was taking off, approaching a nearby airport, or what route it had been flying before the crash. Officials said the aircraft had already crashed by the time the first 911 call was received.

The Federal Aviation Administration was at the scene Wednesday morning, and the National Transportation Safety Board was on the way. Officials said the two agencies will coordinate the investigation into the crash.

Bonds Ranch Road will be closed between Willow Springs Road and Business 287 as emergency crews and investigators respond to the scene. Fort Worth police said it was unclear how long the closure would last and asked drivers to find alternate routes.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
