Kacey Musgraves has found another way into “Uncertain, TX,” and this time she brought Intocable with her.
The eight-time Grammy winner has re-recorded the ‘Middle of Nowhere’ favourite entirely in Spanish with the legendary Música Mexicana group, giving a song already closely tied to Texas another connection to the sounds that have shaped the state.
“Uncertain, TX Feat. Intocable (Spanish Version)” is out now. Listen here.
“Having a song with the legends of Intocable is such a thrill for me,” Musgraves says. “As a Texan, I am proud of the cultural melting pot that makes our state so great and this collaboration is such a fun example of that.”
The original “Uncertain, TX” reached No. 1 at Texas Radio, becoming one of the songs that most directly connected ‘Middle of Nowhere’ to Musgraves’ home state.
Intocable make that connection even richer.
‘Middle of Nowhere’ draws from Texas dance halls, traditional Country and the musical borderlands surrounding Musgraves, weaving Norteño, Tejano, Zydeco, bluegrass and pop into the record. The Intocable collaboration feels especially at home inside that musical map.
The best collaborations can reveal something that was already hiding inside a song. Intocable do that with “Uncertain, TX,” expanding its Texas identity by letting another part of the state’s musical language take the lead.
Released in May, ‘Middle of Nowhere’ debuted at No. 1 on the Top Album chart and was produced by Musgraves alongside longtime collaborators Daniel Tashian and Ian Fitchuk.
Musgraves is also heading into the CMA Awards with five nominations, including Album of the Year and Female Vocalist of the Year. “Dry Spell” earned Song of the Year and Music Video of the Year nominations, while “Horses and Divorces,” her collaboration with Miranda Lambert, is nominated for Musical Event of the Year.
Right now, however, the album is living in arenas.
The 34-date ‘Middle of Nowhere Tour’ began on Musgraves’ 38th birthday, August 21, with a sold-out United Center show in Chicago and has included two sold-out nights at Madison Square Garden.
Its career-spanning set brings ‘Middle of Nowhere’ together with songs from throughout Musgraves’ catalogue. It also includes a spectacle only Kacey Musgraves could explain with the sentence, “This is what happens when no one tells me no.”
During the show, she floats above the arena seated atop a pair of giant, anatomically correct mirrored disco balls.
The tour arrives at Austin’s Moody Center tonight for the first of two shows before continuing through Dallas, Denver, Salt Lake City, Phoenix, Los Angeles, Oakland and Seattle.
A Spanish-language “Uncertain, TX” arriving during a Texas homecoming run feels particularly well timed. Musgraves has always treated her home state as something bigger than a dot on the map, and with Intocable beside her, its musical possibilities get wider still.
