El Paso’s comedy scene is having a moment, and leading the charge is one of its brightest stars: Anthony Austin Brown. The local triple-threat, comedian, actor, and musician, is about to celebrate a massive milestone with the debut of his first comedy special, Almost There, premiering November 15th at Alamo Drafthouse.

I got to host a show recently called Laugh Till Death, where Anthony closed the night, and let me tell you, he had the crowd in the palm of his hand from the moment he grabbed the mic. His energy is electric, his timing flawless, and his crowd work? Unmatched. I’ve seen him perform not just as a comedian, but also as the lead singer of one of El Paso’s most dynamic local bands, Feline Fox, and every time, he brings that same undeniable charisma to the stage.

Anthony is one of those rare artists who seems to shine in any spotlight: actor, singer, comedian, and probably five other things he hasn’t even tried yet. And now, his hard work and talent are coming together in Almost There, a full-length comedy special filmed right here in El Paso at The Davenport Social Club in December 2024.

“This special is about a man who’s been chasing a dream since he was seventeen,” Brown said in a press release. “I want people to take away what Almost There really means; that no matter what you’re going through, you’re closer than you think. Don’t give up. Keep working. You’re almost there.”

The special captures Brown’s signature blend of celebrity impressions, musical moments, and sharp social commentary, all wrapped up in the kind of authenticity that makes him a hometown favorite. It’s El Paso talent, produced by El Paso creatives: directed and edited by Guz Buzz (ChucoTown Comedy), produced by Jeramey Stretch (Stretched Out Comedy!), and made in collaboration with Aaron Barber (MassiveTix and ABComedy) and Jorge Barahona (Bored Film Studios).

The premiere screening event on November 15 will feature live performances from local talent, a red carpet photo op, a live introduction from Anthony, and even an audience Q&A. Seating is limited, and tickets are available for free with RSVP through MassiveTix.com (access code required).

After its premiere, Almost There will officially release to the public on YouTube November 29, 2025, giving fans everywhere the chance to see what El Paso audiences already know: Anthony Austin Brown is a powerhouse performer whose journey is just getting started.

Whether you’ve seen him command the stage at the El Paso Comic Strip, perform alongside comedy legends like D.L. Hughley and Donnell Rawlings, or sing his heart out with Feline Fox, you know this special represents something bigger. It’s the story of an artist who never stopped chasing the dream and proof that sometimes, being “almost there” is exactly where you’re supposed to be.
