New details have emerged about the future of a San Antonio-based brand following an announcement about its upcoming layoffs. The military-style retailer Grunt Style LLC plans to close all of its Texas stores, according to the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC).

Hunter Dworaczyk, Communications Specialist at TWC, provided MySA with the full Worker Adjustment & Retraining Notification (WARN) notices from the company via email on Wednesday, October 7. One covers the San Antonio shop at 900 Broadway Street, and the other covers the Canutillo store at the Outlet Shoppes of El Paso.

“As part of a business restructuring, the company will permanently reduce its workforce at the employment site identified below,” the notices state.

Both also say that the company expects to close the listed retail sites in full, though the Alamo City letter emphasizes closing only the retail site. This is because the Alamo City location is Grunt Style LLC’s headquarters.

“No final determination has been made regarding the future operation or closure of the company headquarters,” the notice states.

The layoffs are expected to occur on Monday, November 30, at both properties, according to the notices. At the San Antonio hub, “a total of 19 employees at this site will be affected, out of 19 employees currently employed at the site,” per the TWC notice. This includes 11 full-time and eight part-time employees.

A separate part of the notice states that a total of 49 employees work at the site. MySA reached out to the TWC for clarification about whether this higher number refers to those employed at the company headquarters, not the retail shop.

Nine of nine individuals at the El Paso location will be let go, including 2 full-time employees and seven part-timers. This means the entire staff will be eliminated, according to the TWC notice.

Employees are expected to continue working through their separation date unless the company communicates otherwise, as stated in both letters. Affected workers received individual written notice by email on Thursday, October 1, 2026, according to the letters.

Grunt Style is a clothing company that describes its mission as “bringing patriotic apparel to every home in America.” Founded in 2009 by Daniel Alarik, a former U.S. Army drill sergeant, the company has since expanded to include both an online shop and brick-and-mortar stores. The company’s apparel features flags, weapons and military-related phrases. Currently, there are 13 locations across the U.S.

According to the Springfield Business Journal, 10 layoffs are also planned for Grunt Style at Tanger Outlets Branson in Missouri as it prepares to close. The layoffs will also take effect next month.

MySA reached out to Grunt Style by phone and email but did not receive a response regarding the layoffs in time for publication.
