Drivers traveling through Dallas on Saturday, Oct. 10 should prepare for traffic disruptions as thousands of fans head to  Cotton Bowl Stadium for the annual Red River Rivalry.

The University of Texas Longhorns and Oklahoma University Sooners will kick off the 122nd  game at 2:30 p.m., but traffic impacts will begin long before the first whistle is blown.

Dallas police said the traffic unit will be conducting 15 escorts for team and visitor buses, with intermittent closures from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Road closures will occur based on bus arrival and departure times, possible accidents and general congestion and construction near Fair Park, said Erika Brown, a public information officer for the department.

Drivers can expect heavy traffic impacts along Dallas North Tollway, U.S. Highway 75, Interstate 30, Interstate 35, Woodall Rogers Freeway and roads surrounding the stadium.

Officers will be deployed near roads surrounding the stadium and fair to direct and manage traffic flow as short-term closures occur.

Parking lots near the State Fair of Texas will open early at 7 a.m. for both fairgoers and game attendees, said Taylor Pulfer, director of communications for the fair.
