EL PASO, TEXAS (KFOX14/CBS4) — El Paso pet owners will have a new way to remember animals they have lost as Día de los Muertos celebrations begin this fall.
Friends of El Paso Animal Services, in collaboration with El Paso Animal Services, is inviting the community to honor and remember beloved pets through the second annual community pet ofrenda at the Mexican American Cultural Center, 201 W. Franklin Ave.
The “Siempre con Nosotros – Always With Us” ofrenda will be on display from Oct. 17 through Nov. 15 as part of the MACC’s Día de los Muertos celebrations.
Organizers said the ofrenda will feature a Rainbow Bridge theme inspired by Día de los Muertos traditions, incorporating handmade papel picado and other traditional elements.
The display is intended to create a space for remembering animal companions and celebrating the bond between people and their pets.
Community members can include their pet in the ofrenda with a $5 memorial contribution benefiting Friends of El Paso Animal Services.
The group said contributions support medical care, foster services, enrichment, community programs, and other resources for pets in need throughout El Paso.
Photo submissions must be received by 11:59 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 13. Participation requirements and photo and name submissions are available through the Friends of El Paso Animal Services Pet Ofrenda page.
