HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — An 11-year-old boy was hospitalized after he was hit by a car Thursday evening in west Houston, according to DPS.

Authorities said the boy was walking with his mother along Highway 6 near Branch Forest when he ran out into the road and was struck.

Moments before the crash, DPS said a trooper pulled over a driver in a gas station parking lot. Investigators initially believed the driver who was stopped also struck the boy, but later said the driver of a different car hit him. They did not say if the striking driver stayed at the scene.

The boy was listed in stable condition at Memorial Hermann hospital, according to DPS.
