There’s no denying it: Texas remains a national epicenter for the revitalized game of American Mahjong, and even global brands like Milanese clothing and lifestyle brand La DoubleJ want in on the action. In addition to swirling the tiles (the ultimate ASMR), the thrill of calling, “Mahjong!” on a closed hand (no one saw it coming), or discarding a Joker to prevent your opponent from winning, half the fun of playing mahjong is the gear.
This summer, we shared our favorite places to play mahjong in Dallas and in Fort Worth. Today, we’re sharing the best mahjong collaboration we’ve seen yet from two favorite brands.
For the first time, Dallas-based The Mahjong Line partnered with an outside brand to design an entirely new tile collection. “The Maximalist Line,” which is available beginning November 2, unites La DoubleJ’s signature prints with The Mahjong Line’s original designs.

“This is a project that was born directly from our dear friends and devoted clients — you wouldn’t believe how many of them begged us to do a Mahjong set!” says La DoubleJ’s founder, J.J. Martin. She continues, “And now, here we are with this fabulous design we co-created with The Mahjong Line, drenched in La DoubleJ’s trademark print, color, and joy. What I love most, though, is that mahjong is centered around getting people together around a table and having a sense of play, lightness, and joy.”
Prepare to raise your vibration because The Maximalist Line features La DoubleJ’s iconic prints and saturated, endorphin-inducing color palette. Inspired by “joyful living, bold design, and the art of gathering,” the collection is a mood-elevating feast for the senses sure to inspire vibrant gatherings around the game table.

Kate LaGere, Co-Founder of The Mahjong Line, says, “La DoubleJ has always understood something we believe deeply at The Mahjong Line: that beauty and play don’t have to be separate things. J.J.’s world is bold, layered, and completely unapologetic, and that’s exactly the energy we wanted for this collection. The Maximalist Line collaboration is the first time we’ve built something entirely new from the ground up with another brand that speaks our language.”
“The Maximalist Line” will be available for $925 on The Mahjong Line’s website, and in all La DoubleJ stores (including Dallas’ Highland Park Village), and online beginning November 2.
