EL PASO, Texas (KFOX14/CBS4) — El Paso County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested a 37-year-old man after authorities said he fled from a traffic stop Saturday night in East El Paso.
Deputies said they tried to stop a red Ford Mustang for a traffic violation around 8:16 p.m. in the 700 block of South Ascension Street.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, the driver did not stop and led deputies through the surrounding area.
A female passenger got out of the vehicle in the 14800 block of Miguel Street and was safely detained.
Authorities said the driver continued to the intersection of Miguel and Zelt streets, drove into a desert area and became stuck.
The driver then ran from the Mustang, but deputies followed him and took him into custody in the desert.
The driver was identified as 37-year-old Isai Ebenezer Silva.

During an investigation and vehicle inventory, deputies said they found less than four grams of methamphetamine.
Silva was charged with evading arrest or detention with a previous conviction, evading arrest or detention with a vehicle, and possession of a controlled substance, Penalty Group 1, less than four grams.
Deputies also found Silva had an outstanding warrant for tampering with an electronic monitoring device and an outstanding parole violation, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
Silva was booked into the El Paso County Downtown Detention Facility and was being held without bond.
“Choosing to evade deputies puts passengers, other drivers, and our deputies at risk,” Sheriff Oscar Ugarte said. “Fleeing does not erase a warrant or prevent an arrest. A traffic stop should never become a situation that endangers others.”
