A San Antonio-based grocery chain is refreshing several of its stores in 2027. The latest store set to receive attention from the company is in Southeast Texas, according to a recently submitted state filing.

H-E-B submitted plans for a costly remodel of a decades-old Angleton location near Houston on Monday, October 5. According to a Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) report, the business is renovating 27,122 square feet of its property at 1239 E. Mulberry.

The company is investing $20 million into the development, according to the filing. It could offer major benefits to the area’s customers. For context, building a store from the ground up on San Antonio’s Far Westside cost $29 million.

It’s been a long time coming. According to the Brazoria Central Appraisal District, the supermarket at 1239 E. Mulberry was built in 1991. H-E-B spokesperson Valentino Lucio told MySA via email that the company did not yet have details to share about the project.

Past H-E-B renovations have included new offices, restrooms, cooling units, and more. Just an hour-and-a-half away, at a Tomball H-E-B, a remodel costing the same price is described as “an expansion” of the existing store, according to its TDLR filing.

Nearby customers may begin noticing minor changes to the land starting next spring. Construction crews are expected to begin work at the site in May 2027, according to the TDLR report. The project is tentatively scheduled for completion in January 2028.
