A Houston-area nonprofit is launching a yearlong billboard campaign to raise awareness about domestic violence and connect survivors with resources during Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
Aid to Victims of Domestic Violence (AVDA) launched the campaign Thursday, Oct. 8, with support from Clear Channel Outdoor, which donated the billboard advertising.
The campaign features four designs with the messages “The Cycle Ends With Us” and “A Safer Home Starts Here” in English and Spanish.
The billboards will appear across Harris, Galveston and Fort Bend counties. The campaign includes 13 traditional billboards and up to 54 digital billboards.
AVDA said the goal is to reach survivors who may not yet have left abusive situations and let them know help is available.
For 46 years, the organization has worked to end family violence by providing free legal representation and trauma counseling for survivors, intervention programs for people who commit abuse, and community education and prevention outreach.
Domestic violence remains a widespread issue. According to AVDA, one in three women and one in four men experience domestic abuse.
The organization reported providing services and outreach to thousands of people in 2025, including:
2,062 survivors received legal assistance.
534 adult survivors and their children received trauma counseling, totaling 3,257 hours.
734 people who committed abuse participated in AVDA’s Battering Intervention and Prevention Program.
26,951 adults and young people were reached through community awareness and prevention trainings, fairs and presentations.
Community partners, including representatives from the Houston Police Department, Harris County Sheriff’s Office and Harris County District Attorney’s Office, were invited to share information about efforts to prevent domestic violence and local statistics.
Survivors seeking assistance can contact AVDA at 713-224-9911 or visit www.avda.org.
The organization provides legal services, counseling and other resources for people affected by domestic violence.
