DALLAS — After surviving a harrowing road trip to Tennessee in its SEC opener, Texas football follows its lone bye week of the season by stepping into the Cotton Bowl cauldron against ancient rival Oklahoma.
But can the No. 1 Longhorns (4-0, 1-0 SEC) avoid an upset against desperate Oklahoma (2-2, 0-1), which will almost certainly lose hopes of a return trip to the College Football Playoff with a loss? It seems so after Texas seized a 17-7 halftime lead. Oklahoma has just 69 yards of offense at the break, and the Sooners’ lone score in the first half came after they recovered a blocked punt in the end zone.

Oklahoma’s offense needs to fare better than it has while losing three of the past four games against the Longhorns. The Sooners didn’t score a touchdown in any of those losses, and an offense ranked last in the SEC with 321.3 yards per game must face a Texas defense that gives up a league-low 13.3 points per game.
