The Bexar County Sheriff’s Office is searching for a suspect after a shooting outside Leaf Hookah Lounge in Northeast San Antonio left one man dead and another wounded early Saturday.

Just before 6 a.m., two men broke away from a group outside the lounge in the 6200 block of Binz Engleman Road and began shooting, Sheriff Javier Salazar said at a news conference.

A 33-year-old man was found dead. A 37-year-old man was found in a nearby car with two gunshot wounds to his upper body. He was taken to a hospital and was awake and talking by the time of the news conference. The sheriff’s office has not released either man’s identity.

The suspect left on foot and was last seen wearing white pants, a white shirt, a black belt and a white bucket hat. Officials believe he may have had dreadlocks. Anyone who sees him should call 911 and avoid approaching him.

Video showed the man who died holding a gun before his death, but officials have not determined whether he fired any shots. No guns were found at the scene. A gun was later found in a backyard about 1½ miles away, in the direction the suspect walked. The sheriff’s office has not confirmed whether it was connected to the shooting.

Six people who were gathered at the scene were detained. One of them livestreamed the victim as he was dying, Salazar said.

Salazar said he may pursue legal action against Leaf Hookah Lounge, where he said several shootings have occurred.

“This place is a problem,” Salazar said. “When folks gather here, bad things happen.”
