Really? Are there not other issues the Transportation Security Administration and Homeland Security need to improve?

I really don’t care if the officers sit or stand as long as their attitude is hospitable and welcoming.

Maybe what TSA agents need to do is tell passengers, “Have a good flight.”

The Rev. Dr. James E. Schellenberg

I thought socialism was government spending on the basic things I should pay.

In Texas, we now have school vouchers, most of which are spent at private schools.

My wife and I chose to put our children in a private school. We paid all the expenses of a private school and paid our property taxes.

Having the government pay any of it would have been socialism.

What do you think about that, Gov. Greg Abbott?

Pope Leo XIV has been quite clear that he is deeply concerned about how our society has been treating immigrants — and even citizens.

Our U.S. bishops have been equally clear in their expression of deep concern. San Antonio Archbishop Gustavo García-Siller wrote a lengthy pastoral letter that speaks clearly to the cruelty, separations of families, deportations without due process, deplorable conditions of confinement and even criminal executions by agents of the government.

Each of these messages includes a recognition of the need for commonsense management of our borders.

I am reminded of Lutheran minister Dietrich Bonhoeffer, who said, “Silence in the face of evil is itself evil. … Not to speak is to speak. Not to act is to act.”

So, I’m speaking out now. I know that some members of society will say that any conversation about immigrants and refugees is political. It is, but the way it’s being handled is also morally wrong, inhumane and criminal.

Re: “Fee steals library access,” Your Turn, Oct. 2:

I find it disheartening that those of us living outside city limits who have had a San Antonio public library card for years will now have to pay $30 a year to check out books from our neighborhood libraries.

Surely, Bexar County and the city of San Antonio could have worked together to keep libraries available to all of us for free.
