About a dozen students signed up for free haircuts ahead of Saturday’s homecoming dance, thanks to a new partnership with Elevated Barbershop.
CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Some Flour Bluff High School students are getting a fresh look for homecoming thanks to a new partnership bringing free haircuts right to campus.
About 12 students were expected to receive free haircuts on Wednesday ahead of the school’s homecoming dance Saturday.
Principal Amy Seeds said the idea came from Communities In Schools support specialist Karina Garcia, who wanted to help students feel confident heading into the weekend.

“This is a need that’s often overlooked, and we just felt like it would be a great opportunity to help students feel some confidence as they go to the homecoming dance this weekend,” Seeds said.
Communities In Schools partnered with Elevated Barbershop, which donated its services to provide the haircuts. “I definitely wanna say thank you to Elevated Barbershop for donating their services to our students today,” Seeds said.
Students receiving support through Communities In Schools were able to sign up for haircuts with their parents’ permission.
Seeds said this is the first time Flour Bluff High School has offered free haircuts as part of its homecoming week.
“I was on board right away that yes, absolutely, it’s a need,” Seeds said.
The haircuts are just one part of a busy homecoming week. The school held its homecoming parade on Monday and hosted dress-up days throughout the week. Students also took part in a pep rally on Wednesday.
Students do not have classes on Thursday or Friday, but the homecoming football game is still scheduled for Friday night, followed by the homecoming dance Saturday night.
Seeds said she hopes the haircut program can become a homecoming tradition if partnerships with local businesses continue.
“It would be great if we could incorporate this every year,” Seeds said. “As long as that partnership continues with our local businesses, absolutely we’d like to do this every year.”
