Texas families with a college-bound student in the house can save some money this week. Free College Application Week starts Monday and goes through Sunday night.
Free College Application Week is a statewide initiative that helps Texas residents apply to public colleges at no cost.
Every public college and university in Texas is required to waive admission application fees for Texans who take advantage of the weeklong opportunity.
First, go to apply-texas.org. That site lets you apply to college with a single application.
Then, create an account to submit your application to the educational institution you are interested in.
From Monday, Oct. 12 to Sunday, Oct. 18 at 11:59 p.m., Texas residents can submit their admission applications without paying the application fee.
A member of the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board said last year, more than 260,000 applications were submitted during this week, saving families millions of dollars in fees.
“The goal here is to make sure that all 100% of our high school students apply to college and go to college, because we know that the majority of all of our jobs are requiring something beyond a high school diploma. In order to meet the needs of our thriving economy, we have to make sure that all of our students have an education and knowledge and skills that are going to benefit them in the workforce,” said David Troutman, the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board’s deputy commissioner for academic and workforce initiatives.
High school students, first-time college students, transfer students, and working adults can apply during free college application week as long as they are Texas residents and applying for an undergraduate program – such as a first bachelor’s degree, associate degree, or certificate – at participating public colleges and universities.
