DALLAS, Texas (KXII) – It’s the final week at the State Fair of Texas, with new safety measures and lower prices in place this year.
With 277 acres to cover, State Fair of Texas officials must keep safety and security top of mind, starting at the gate. All bags are subject to search on fair grounds.
“As you’re coming through the gates, you’re going to be screened through our weapons detections system,” said State Fair of Texas Director of Communications Taylor Pulfer. “We strongly encourage folks to bring a clear bag, however its not required.”
The after five policy also requires those 17 and under to have a chaperone that’s 21 or over after 5:00 p.m., and because little fairgoers can get lost in the crowd, the safe kids program provides ID wristbands.
“You’ll be able to get a wristband for your child, fill out the information on it, so that if you should become disconnected throughout your journey at the state fair, we’ll be able to easily reconnect you,” Pulfer stated.
Paying for the State Fair of Texas often starts in the parking lot. Pulfer says that although it may be tempting to park farther away for cheaper prices, it’s highly encouraged to use official State Fair of Texas lots where there is round the clock surveillance.
“We’re going to be able to ensure that you have a well-lit parking lot, and its patrolled by our officers,” said Pulfer.
It costs $25 to park in official fair lots, down $5 from last year.
Your fair admission ticket grants access to nearly 100 free events from Texan shows and attractions, to live performances, and if fair food is your thing:
“On Thursdays we always encourage our foodies to come out,” Pulfer said. “A lot of our concessionaires will offer some of their most popular food items at a discounted price.”
