NORMAN, Okla. (KOKH) — For the first time since 2023, Oklahoma beat Texas, using timely plays on special teams, defense and offense to pull out a win over the No. 1 Longhorns on Saturday at the Cotton Bowl.

The Sooners got key contributions from all three phases, starting with Danny Okoye’s blocked punt that was recovered by Dakoda Fields to tie the game at seven. Later, Peyton Bowen’s pick-six gave Oklahoma a 24-17 lead in the fourth quarter.

With the game tied at 24, Courtland Guillory intercepted Arch Manning to set up the Sooners with 19 seconds remaining. Quarterback John Mateer then completed two passes to Isaiah Sategna, setting up Tate Sandell for the 47-yard game-winning field goal.

Oklahoma was outgained by 144 yards, but found more rhythm in the second half.

Lloyd Avant and the Sooners’ run game played some of their best football of the year down the stretch, including a 42-yard run in the third quarter that helped set up a Sandell field goal.

OU will now turn its attention to another ranked opponent, No. 15 Kentucky.

Kickoff from Gaylord Family Oklahoma Memorial Stadium is Saturday at 6:30p.m.
