A legacy Tex-Mex restaurant in Central Texas known for attracting big names — from Will Ferrell to Serena Williams — is now adding a British pop star to its growing list of celebrity diners. Charli XCX was recently spotted visiting Matt’s El Rancho while in Austin over the weekend.
Charli XCX performed both Fridays October 2 and 9, where she surprised fans with surprise guests Troye Sivan during Weekend 1 and Tinashe during her Weekend 2 set. After her shows, the Grammy Award-winning singer made the most of her time in Austin with a shopping trip on South Congress Avenue and more recently, a meal at Matt’s.
While it’s unclear what Charli XCX ordered at Matt’s, MySA reached out to the restaurant to find out. This isn’t the first time Charli XCX has made it a point to stop at some beloved Austin spots while visiting the city.
Last year, she kicked off the North American leg of her BRAT 2025 TOUR with two back-to-back concerts at the Moody Center. She prolonged her stay in the city and was spotted partying at Donn’s Depot and greeting fans on South Congress near the Austin Motel.
Known for some of her biggest hits like “party 4 u” and “apple,” Charli XCX is a British singer and songwriter from Essex, England. Her latest and eighth studio album, brat, earned three Grammy Awards in February 2025.
Matt’s El Rancho opened in 1952 and has become a Tex-Mex staple in Austin for decades. In addition to serving its signature Mexican-American dishes such as enchiladas, burritos and carne guisada, the restaurant has become a celebrity magnet attracting everyone from former presidents to award-winning comedians, actors and more.
