Police said all six grenades appeared to date back to World War II and were in relatively good condition considering their age.
Bomb Squad personnel examined the devices using X-rays and determined they appeared to be live. Although they did not pose an immediate threat under the circumstances, their age and condition warranted safety precautions, police said.
The Austin Police Association said patrol officers secured the scene and established a perimeter while awaiting the Bomb Squad.
Bomb Squad personnel conducted procedures to render the grenades safe, eliminating any potential hazards. APD confirmed there is no ongoing investigation.
Authorities remind residents who encounter old military explosives not to touch or move them, even if they appear inactive. Instead, call 911 and allow trained personnel to handle the devices.
